Anthony Joshua real name Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua produced the performance of his career to add the WBA world heavyweight title to his IBF crown with an enthralling knockout win over Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium.
The crowd were not left disappointed to an enthralling spectacle as Joshua put down the former unified world champion in the fifth round, and again – for the first time in his 19-fight career – in the sixth round.
The 41 year old was Ukrainian was dropped in the 11 round in the full view of the record 90,000 fans at the national stadium.
The 27-year-old Briton landed a brutal uppercut which gave him the platform to send Klitschko down with an immediate flurry.
At the time of the stoppage, Joshua was up 96-93 and 95-93 on two cards, with Klitschko leading 95-93 on the other.
Both men looked in danger of being stopped over two rounds which will live long in the memory, before Joshua delivered the clinical blows in the 11th.
The new heavyweight champion is being dubbed the new Mohammed Ali and he showed that he is a protégé of the late boxing champion by copying some of his worthy ‘boxing stance’.
Joshua remains unbeaten in all 19 professional fights as he adds the WBA “super” version of the title to his own IBF belt, and stopped one of boxing’s finest old champions.
