Ndani TV burns down, billions feared lost

The studio and some other facilities of leading online platform, Ndani TV, burnt down Sunday morning in Lagos, Nigeria.

In a tweet announcing the fire incident, the platform said:

We might be down, but we are definitely not out.

Beyond the platform’s Twitter announcement however, unconfirmed reports reaching us suggest that equipment worth millions of Naira were lost in the fire. Cameras, computers, lighting equipment and much more are said to have perished.

It is also feared that many of the content that have been broadcast on the online channel may now have been lost in the fire.

According to a source close to the platform but who wishes to remain anonymous, footage of recently shot new season of Gidi Up and Skinny Girl in Transit may have been lost in the fire. Backup copies of other content are said to have also been on site and may have been lost too.

A rough estimate of the cost of Ndani content from launch till date puts figures in billions of naira.

It is powered by Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) and it is known for web content such as The Juice, Gidi Up, Skinny Girl in Transit, Young CEO, Fashion Insider. Starting out in 2009 as Ndani, a quarterly e-newsletter, Ndani TV has grown to become one of the biggest online TV platforms in Africa.
