“President Mugabe does not sleep in public functions; he is only protecting his eyes” – Robert Mugabe’s spokesman

President Mugabe does not sleep in public functionsAfter series of accusation against the Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe that he was always sleeping in public functions instead of paying attention, his spokesman, George Charamba has come to his defense.

According to him, as quoted in Herald newspaper owned by the state, the president does not sleep in functions rather he is  only protecting his eyes sight from bright lights.

“I feel like a failure when there is this reading that the President is sleeping in conferences. No. At 93, there is something that happens to the eyes and the president cannot suffer bright lights. If you look at his poise, he looks down, avoids direct lighting.”

He compared him with the late president of South Africa , Mandela who would not allow a flash light anytime he was in the room as a way of shielding his sight.

Mugabe left the country on Monday for his routine medical checkup in Singapore and he will be back on Saturday for the burial of former Zimbabwean Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku.

In the case of Mandela, if you remember, you were not allowed to even use flashes whenever he was in the room. This is what happens at 93 and Mandela, I do not think lived as long as the president.” He said.

Well that explains it, so anytime you see the president in such manner, just have it in mind that he is not actually sleeping but protecting his sight. The 93- year old Mugabe started ruling the country since 1980 and he is planning to go for a re- elect in 2018.
