The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) top investigator escaped death when gunmen opened fire on him in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Mr. Austin Okwor an operative in the Property Fraud department of the EFCC Zonal office based in Port Harcourt, closed late for the day and was about to leave the office, when gang of hoodlums opened fire on him.
Fortunately for him, he was able to get away from the goons but sustained bullet wounds as they kept shooting at him. He was rushed to a private hospital in Port Harcourt where he is getting treatment.
The case has already been reported to the Police in Port Harcourt according to Ishaq Salihu, Head of the Zonal office. Okwor is one of the operatives inspecting some delicate cases relating to corrupt judicial officials. Before the occurrence, the officer had been receiving warning messages. One of the messages which he received sometime in May 2017 was reported to the Police.
This incident points out the occupational hazards which EFCC operatives are exposed to in the discharge of their duties.
