The younger brother of Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday emerged as the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming July 8 bye election to fill the vacant seat of Osun Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Adeleke had at the eleventh hour defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the PDP.
His emergence followed the decision of other senatorial aspirants in the PDP, including Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi, Retired Colonel Olayiwola Falabi and Bamidele Salam to step down for him after a stakeholders’ meeting of the PDP in Osogbo in the early hours of Tuesday.
Ademola Adeleke’s emergence came through affirmation after scoring 343 votes in the primary exercise conducted by national committee of the PDP led by Chief Pegba Otemolu.
Speaking during the primary exercise at Iwo Township Stadium, Otemolu said, “We had thought that this exercise would take longer time, but with the unfolding events, we are going to spend few hours.”
In his remark after the exercise, Ademola Adeleke stated;
“Come July 8, 2017, we shall coast home to victory by the grace of God. Nothing can stop us. We are winning this election.”
Addressing newsmen, the Osun State chairman of the PDP, Soji Adagunodo said that;
“You can see that we are open and transparent in our primaries election. With the consensus candidate we have presented, we are good to go in July 8 bye election. We would win landslide.”
He further posited that;
“Ademola Adeleke was our member before he joined the APC. Now he has come back. What happened today is a sign of good things to come in 2018 when we would win 2018 governorship election.”
